I’ve spent nearly two decades working across the studio and live music worlds, mixing and mastering records, live releases and immersive projects, while spending a fair chunk of that time behind the Front of House desk for Grammy Award winning RÜFÜS DU SOL.
The career started at Joe Camilleri’s Woodstock Studios in St Kilda, Melbourne, where I cut my teeth as an assistant engineer. An analogue based studio centred around a trusty Neve console and a collection of tasty outboard gear, it taught me early on to make decisions and trust what I was hearing.
Studio work eventually crossed over into live sound. Wind the clock forward to 2013, a chance meeting on tour in Denver, CO saw me introduced to a then up and coming electronic act from Sydney called RÜFÜS. What followed has seen a fair few laps of the globe as the band became known as RÜFÜS DU SOL, moving from clubs and theatres to major festivals, sold out arenas and stadiums along the way.
Over time the role grew into much more than just ‘mixing’ a show, working closely with the band and wider creative team as the RÜFÜS DU SOL sound evolved album to album. That relationship has crossed back into recordings and immersive audio too, including mixing Live from Joshua Tree and its Dolby Atmos release, On My Knees, Live from The Gorge Amphitheatre, along with a long list of live releases and performances that have made their way across streaming, YouTube and socials.
When I’m off the road it’s back to the old haunt of St Kilda, mixing and mastering from my new high end stereo and Dolby Atmos studio. Recent works from Dom Dolla’s Coachella set through to the funk of Melbourne’s Mondo Freaks, LA duo darlings FifteenØeight and country rockers Kingswood with plenty more in between.
